Militant killings: Massive Protests in Shopian; 13 injured, 03 referred to Sgr

Three terrorists of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen have been killed while two soldiers martyred in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. In wake of the encounter, authorities have blocked internet services in Shopian district and other sensitive parts of south Kashmir.

The area has been cordoned, as around three terrorists are believed to be holed up and attempts are being made to smoke them out. News agency ANI quoted the state's senior superintendent of police as saying that one militant had been killed. Our correspondent reports that the slain terrorists were identified as local Hizbul Mujahideen cadres.

The soldier has been identified as Nb Sub Jagram Singh Tomar, who got grievously injured during the exchange of fire and succumbed to his injuries.

Five soldiers were injured in the gunfight yesterday and were evacuated to 92 Base Hospital of the Army for treatment.

In a joint operation of 55 Rashtriya Rifles personnel, special operations group of police and Central Reserve Police Force, a mosque and four residential houses were blasted late last night in Awneera area.

Heavy stone pelting has been reported on the spot.

"They emerged from the rubble after overnight lull and fired indiscriminately at our men".

Clashes broke out in the village Saturday evening with youth hitting roads and throwing brickbats on government forces, apparently in a bid to help militants break the cordon.
