He also said that he is personally hurt by the move. Nitish had responded like this because Sharad Yadav has been openly criticizing Nitish for his decision to join the BJP. "I invited JD (U) to join the NDA", Mr Shah said in a tweet today.

He said, when we are together in government in Bihar, it is only natural that our party joins the Union government.

The Bihar JD-U's state executive, party legislatures and all Bihar district presidents are with Nitish Kumar and have authorised him to take decisions in this hour of crisis, he added.

On Saturday, Sharad Yadav shot back at Nitish Kumar.

"Met Vice President & gave in writing that we have elected RCP Singh as our leader in Rajya Sabha", state JD-U president Vashishtha Narayan Singh was quoted as telling news agency ANI. He made it clear that the JD (U) has already chose to align with the BJP.

He refused to comment on the JD-U decision to replace him as the parliamentary party leader.

The Janata Dal-United president Nitish Kumar on July 26 snapped ties with the Grand Alliance of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress. "People's mandate was against the BJP-led NDA", he said.

He further said that the members of Parliament, whether they belong to the Rajya Sabha or the Lok Sabha, showed their disappointment to the authorities regarding Sharad Yadav's three-day Jan Samvad Yatra, which started on August 10.

Talking about Sharad Yadav's proximity to Lalu Prasad Yadav's RJD, he said during Sharad Yadav's Bihar visit this week, he was surrounded by people from RJD right from the airport, where he landed. We will go to the people. Though the latter lacks a support base of the nature of other mass leaders, his stature as a senior leader from the Mandal camp is seen as a political asset which, coupled with the backing of other opposition parties, could provide ballast for their campaign in Bihar.

He said that they will now decide whether to attend the JD (U)'s National Council meeting on 19 August.
