La série continue donc pour Federer qui compte bien enfin accrocher un titre à Montréal où il n'avait plus joué depuis 2011.

Avant d'améliorer son record à la tête du tennis mondial (302 semaines au total), Roger Federer devra battre en demi-finale le 52e mondial Robin Haase, vainqueur en quart de l'Argentin Diego Schwartzman (36e) en trois sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Plusieurs fois plié en deux, Monfils, qui avait laissé filer une balle de match au 12e jeu du troisième set, a concédé les quatre premiers points du bris.

Toujours mené au score dans les deux dernières manches, il a toutefois pu croire à son étoile avec deux balles de break en sa faveur pour égaliser à 5-5 dans le deuxième set.

Ce sera le premier duel à vie entre Shapovalov et Zverev sur le circuit de l'ATP. Il en sera de même pour la grande finale, dimanche après-midi.

En finale, dimanche, ils affronteront le tandem composé des Français Pierre-Hugues Herbert et Nicolas Mahut, cinquièmes têtes de série, ou celui composé de l'Autrichien Oliver Marach et du Croate Mate Pavic, classés huitièmes, qui s'affronteront en début de soirée.
