Iraq: two US soldiers killed, five wounded in internal incident

Five other soldiers were wounded, it said in a statement, without providing further details.

The U.S. military says two American soldiers have been killed while conducting combat operations in northern Iraq, but not as a result of "enemy contact".

The slain troops were part of the so-called US-led coalition, which was formed in 2014, with a purported aim of fighting the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group in Iraq but it was later expanded to include territories in eastern and northern Syria.

Lt. Gen. Stephen Townsend, the commander of USA forces battling the Islamic State group in Iraq, said the coalition "sends our deepest condolences to these heroes' families, friends and teammates". The troops are mainly providing training and logistic support to the Iraqi forces, in addition to airstrikes by a USA -led global coalition.

Daesh terrorost group has claimed responsibility for killing two United States soldiers west of Iraqi Mosul, Reuters reported.

The incident came nearly one month after the Iraqi government declared victory over ISIS in the terror network's stronghold of Mosul.
