Three occupants of the SUV, a 16-year-old girl, 11-year-old boy and 11-month-old girl were all killed instantly.

Chris Kalyn with Alberta Health Services said paramedics were dispatched to the crash at a highway intersection around 5:45 p.m.

Three children have died after a collision between a tractor trailer and a minivan at Highway 36 and Highway 570 near Hanna, about 220 kilometres east of Calgary.

A man, 44, and a woman, 32, who were in the SUV were both hurt and were listed in stable condition. The driver and adult passenger of the SUV were taken to a Calgary hospital; one via STARS air ambulance and one via ground ambulance.

A 54-year-old man was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

An RCMP collision analyst is attending the collision scene to conduct an investigation into the cause of this collision.

Early reports say an SUV was westbound on Highway 570 when it struck a transport truck that was southbound on Highway 36.
