Shocked witness hears 'tiles clatter to the ground' as London Poundland roof collapses while 100 firefighters battle 'suspicious blaze' engulfing high street store and flats above

Half of the ground floor of the Poundland store, is alight as well as part of the first floor and the roof.

Witnesses posted video on social media of the discount shop in Chingford being engulfed by flames - and the building's roof has been partially destroyed.

London Fire Brigade was called to Old Church Road at 18:54 BST and 15 fire crews from Chingford and surrounding stations are now at the scene. Pray there's no one in there Horrific!'

Cops are treating the blaze as a suspected arson attack after three people were spotted fleeing.

A Met Police spokesman said: 'Police on patrol in Waltham Forest came across a fire at a shop in Chingford Mount at 18:55pm. I hope no one has been hurt in the fire.

Fire crews from Chingford and surrounding stations are on the scene to try and tackle the blaze.

"Officers, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended and found the store ablaze".

"Nearby properties have been evacuated as a precaution. Three suspects were seen to leave the area soon after the fire started", said a Metropolitan Police spokesperson, as cited by the Evening Standard.

"At this early stage, the fire is being treated as suspicious".
