His family, friends, schoolmates, and supporters present at the funeral called for the prosecution of his murderers.

Nuns, priests and hundreds of children joined the funeral procession as it made its way from a church to the cemetery where the 17-year-old was buried.

After the procession, a burial mass was held at the Sta.

But bereaved mother David believes the response to Kian's killing marks a turning point in opposition to the drug war. "We call for accountability of the police officers directly involved in the killings as well as accountability of the commander-in-chief who sanctioned the killings", said Renato Reyes Jr, secretary general of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan).

Police also justified the slaying, claiming that Kian resisted arrest and fired at them with a gun, prompting them to shoot back, killing him on the spot.

During the procession, the victim's casket was boarded on top of a multicab utility vehicle and decorated with flowers and white ornaments.

Thousands joined the funeral march for slain teenager Kian delos Santos in Caloocan city earlier today, August 26.

Delos Santos' shooting in a controversial anti-drug operation on August 16 has drawn public outrage as witness statements and forensic and video evidence suggested that the boy was murdered. Before, police could kill and nobody paid attention. He sustained gunshot wounds in the head.

Duterte has assured the public that police officers involved in Delos Santos' death would go to jail if found guilty.

Cerillo and the three police officers have been relieved from their posts and placed under restrictive custody.

On Saturday, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said President Rodrigo Duterte would not absolve any erring members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) from their misconduct.

"The President has reminded our law enforcement officers in numerous occasions that he will not tolerate their wrongdoings or illegal acts, and the filing of a criminal complaint underscores this resolve of the government", Abella said in a statement read over state-run dzRB.

Abella called on the public to allow the proper court to look into the case of the teenager.

"Let us allow the legal process to run its course and trust the justice system under the Duterte presidency", he said.

The 17-year-old Grade 11 student was among those killed in Metro Manila last week for his alleged involvement in drug trade.

"Yes, [President] Duterte, this (Delos Santos' case) is murder".

"The number one concern for people here is not against Duterte himself, but they feel like he is relying on the wrong agent, which is the national police of Philippines to wage this war", said Heydarian.

Justice Secretary in a Senate probe characterized the death of Delos Santos as "collateral damage", and "isolated incident" and simply "blown out of proportion", earning the ire of some senators.
