May visits Japan with 'lofty' goal of mirroring European Union trade deal

British PM Theresa May Attends Top Security Meeting In Japan

"There's obviously a number of trade deals that the European Union has with other countries and we are looking at the possibility of those being able to be brought over into... trade deals with the United Kingdom", the Prime Minister said.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has reiterated her intention to contest the next election in 2022, brushing off stern warnings by her fellow members of parliament that her leadership is in doubt.

He also accused her of sounding like Margaret Thatcher, who once famously vowed to "go on an on".

But former Tory chairman Grant Shapps said it was "too early" for May to talk about going "on and on" like Margaret Thatcher.

"I am in this for the long term", she said, when asked if she expects to fight the general election scheduled for 2022.

Newspapers reports over the weekend claimed Mrs May had told MPs that she meant to stand down in the summer of 2019 to give her successor ample time to bed in before the next election.

"We've got this massive Brexit thing coming up and she's got 18 months".

Former education secretary Nicky Morgan told the BBC's HARDtalk programme: "I think it's going to be hard for Theresa May to lead us into the next general election".

Ms May's promise confounded the expectations of most political observers, who expected her to exit the stage before the next election after losing her majority in the House of Commons at the last ballot this summer. By and large those who are most unimpressed by the way she has led up to this point think that it was a deliberate move to show authority.

Jon Trickett, shadow minister for the Cabinet Office, said: "The Prime Minister is deluding herself".

"I've made it clear since June. that I'm giving my undivided backing to Theresa May", Johnson told CNN while on a visit to Nigeria. "We have got to think about how we renew our franchise".

Senior Tories have indicated that Theresa May will not be supported in her ambitions to run for a second term as Prime Minister.

"She's ideally placed to deliver a great outcome for our country and then deliver what we all want to see, which is this exciting agenda of global Britain".

As well as her trade mission, Mrs May has supported the nation's efforts against North Korea. I would like nothing more for Theresa May, if she can not find the affection of the British public, to find admiration and respect.
