Kearse has surpassed 500 receiving yards as a complementary target in each of those campaigns and will become the most accomplished receiver on Gang Green's roster.

Richardson's spot on the defensive line could be filled by Kony Ealy, whom the Jets claimed off waivers this week and who played well in the preseason finale against the Eagles on Thursday night.

The Seahawks are landing Sheldon Richardson as part of this deal.

DT Sheldon Richardson is heading to Seattle, while at least one draft pick and WR Jermaine Kearse is heading to NY. Both teams will also swap seventh-round draft picks. Ever since Quincy Enunwa went down with a season-ending neck injury, the Jets have had a desperate need for receivers. He rated as Pro Football Focus' No. 19 edge defender last season and has been near the top of PFF's interior defenders list in previous years, joining teammates Muhammad Wilkerson and Leonard Williams.

One year later, he earned his only Pro Bowl invitation to date after recording eight sacks and setting the pace for a NY defensive line that was especially stingy to opposing ballcarriers.

Richardson was originally a first-round pick at the 2013 NFL Draft. Last year, Kearse had 41 catches for 510 yards and one TD.

The Jets have Kearse under contract for two years with the option to buy him out after this season.

Multiple NFL franchises have already pulled off trades for players likely to be cut this week, and Seattle's front office is clearly trying to get value for players unlikely to be on their roster at the start of the regular season.

According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, the Jets were making calls to potentially trade Richardson.
