Putin also said Russian Federation meant to draft a resolution for consideration in the United Nations Security Council, suggesting armed U.N. peacekeepers be deployed to eastern Ukraine to help protect ceasefire monitors from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) there.

According to Plotnitsky, his republic wants de-escalation of the conflict and peace settlement of the situation in line with the Minsk agreements, for which ends Ukraine must stop shelling its territory. It was a Ukrainian fault that the withdrawal of troops from the contact line was disrupted over 70 times.

"Of course, we are talking of only the function of ensuring security of the OSCE mission", he added.

Russia will submit a resolution to the UN Security Council on the deployment of UN peacekeepers along the demarcation line in Donbass to ensure security of the OSCE mission, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday after the BRICS summit, TASS reports. He stressed however that deployment of United Nations peacekeepers could only be possible after weapons withdrawal from the area and upon agreement with the self-proclaimed Donbass republics.

Any discussions on possible deployment of United Nations peacekeepers to the eastern Ukrainian region of Donbass will be possible in case Kiev implements the Minsk agreements, head of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) Igor Plotnitsky said on Tuesday.
