The Gauri Hathya Virodhi Vedike forum organised the march a week after the reputed journalist was shot dead by unidentified assailants outside her home in Bengaluru.

According to a The Times of India, the preliminary report is likely to be submitted to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case on Wednesday.

Other people present at the protest included journalist P Sainath, politician Rajeev Gowda, social activist Medha Patkar and women s rights campaigner Kavita Krishnan.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday slapped a legal notice on columnist Ramchandra Guha for allegedly linking the Sangh Parivar with the murder of scribe Gauri Lankesh, and asked him to apologise publicly for the same.

Gauri's mother Indira, sister Kavitha, brother Indrajit and niece Esha also took part.

A commemorative edition of "Gauri Lankesh Patrike" was launched at the venue. "We do not know how many of us, who are here today, will be alive tomorrow".

BJP leaders have hit out at some rationalists who have been making allegations against Sangh Parivar outfits relating to the murder of Gauri Lankesh.

"The message that the killers of Gauri wanted to send us, progressive thinkers and democrats, was that we should shut up or face consequences".

"Those of us here would like to tell her murderers loud and clear: 'I am Gauri, we are all Gauri, '" it added. Gauri Lankesh's murder is being condemned with a massive rally on Wednesday and activists from across the country are expected to arrive in Bengaluru for the same. Participants in the protest raised slogans such as "Gauri Lankesh Amar Rahe" (Long Live Gauri Lankesh), "I am Gauri, We are Gauri".

It quoted forum convenor K. Leela as saying, "The forum of progressive thinkers, writers, social activists, artistes and intellectuals was formed last Friday to fight against Lankesh killing and chose to hold the national-level "resistance convention" here".

Several organisations like the Welfare Party of India, Communist Party of India (CPI), CPIML, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Dalit Sangharsh Samithi (DSS) participated in the the rally, which started from the City Railway station.
