Overall, "It" was a perennial success both critically and at the box office, grossing more than $123.1 million in North America over the weekend.

Before this past weekend, "Paranormal Activity 3" had the biggest horror opening from 2011 with $52.6 million, and the highest September debut was "Hotel Transylvania 2's" $48.5 million in 2015.

It was one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year, and now that IT's out, it has absolutely shattered all the box office records for horror films.

As much fun as Muschietti's It was, there was definitely more room for a deeper, more terrible kind of fear that would have made Pennywise that much more terrifying. It's a different story but I'm excited to delve in deeper to the character. Muschietti confirms that the star of his movie, Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise, will be back to play the demented alien. While it still has numerous failings that plague the genre today, it still manages to be a good time, with some truly impressive visuals you should see on the big screen.
