Larry King has revealed that he underwent surgery for lung cancer in July.

"I go for my checkup and they say, 'Let's do a chest X-ray, and the doctor said to me, 'Something looks amusing, ' " the 83-year-old host of the web series "Larry King Now" says in the new issue of Us Weekly. Doctors attributed the lung cancer to King's history as a smoker, though King says he hasn't smoked a cigarette since he had a heart attack in the late '80s. Doctors removed the malignancy through a surgical procedure that went in through his ribs, and after a week of recovery, King was back to work on the sixth season of "Larry King Now". "They tested it. They said, 'You are fine.' It was Stage 1", King told "Extra's" Mario Lopez. After a CAT scan and PET scan he was told he has the beginning stages of lung cancer. "I feel good, I get my checkups, I stay healthy, and I'm active", King told Us. "They showed me my latest chest X-ray, which is all clear".

Narrating the moments that led to his secret diagnosis, King says the doctors revealed the shocking news during one of his routine visits.

"Thirty years later, I said to the doctor, 'Is this connected with that?' Absolutely", he said. "They are all painless", and can save your life!

Going forward, King said, he'll get chest X-rays every six months. "I have no plans to retire", he tells Us.

Throughout the years, King has endured various health issues such as a heart attack, type 2 diabetes and was diagnosed with prostate cancer in his 70s, which was treated with radiation.

"I'll die on the air probably", he joked.

"I never thought it would happen to me".
