Dolphins owner Stephen Ross pledges $1M to Hurricane Irma relief

Miami was scheduled to play its home opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday, but the game was rescheduled to November because of the hurricane.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has pledged $1million to Hurricane Irma relief efforts after the storm ransacked the state of Florida, the team announced on Wednesday.

Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens has been determined to be safe for the Miami Hurricanes, who are scheduled to play the next game there September 23 against Toledo, and for the Miami Dolphins.

"The devastation throughout Florida was heartbreaking, but I am inspired by the resilience and spirit of our state to help rebuild", Ross said.

In addition to the sizable donation, the team will also send volunteers from its "Miami Dolphins Special Teams" program of workers and staff in conjunction with the AARP Foundation.

They will be helping with rebuilding projects in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

The team will be closely monitoring relief and rebuilding efforts in Monroe and Collier counties in order to provide assistance after collaborating with local and regional community partners.
