The PM asked Michael Fabricant if he was on the show as the celebrity or the date in a light-hearted answer to his question at PMQs.

Lichfield MP Mr Fabricant, who has previously described himself as "not exclusively gay", had raised the West Midlands' bid to host the Commonwealth Games when Mrs May made the revelation.

MP Michael Fabricant will be looking for love on Channel 4 programme Celebrity First Dates, the prime minister has revealed.

Celebrity First dates sets well-known people up on blind dates and has previously featured the likes of TV presenter Esther Rantzen and Atomic Kitten member Natasha Hamilton.

He has been an MP since 1992 and has served as a whip in Parliament and a vice chairman of the Conservative Party.

"I have noticed that my Honourable Friend apparently is shortly to appear on a Channel 4 programme called Celebrity First Dates", Mrs May said during Prime Minister's Questions.

'What I'm not sure about is whether he is the celebrity or the first date'.

Mr Fabricant will appear in the celebrity version of the popular programme which records first dates between single strangers and their reactions afterwards.
