Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba, faces the prospect of weeks on the sidelines, after suffering a hamstring injury during their 3-0 win over Basle in the Champions League on Tuesday.

I don't know (what the severity is), Mourinho told MUTV. "I just know from experience it's a muscular injury".

Voted last season's Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year, the United boss confirmed his absence from the squad was down to the options at his disposal rather than injury.

"It looks for me too (like a hamstring injury) but I haven't spoken yet to the medical department".

But Mourinho today has insisted that Manchester United are a stronger outfit with him in the squad.

Fellaini claimed 80 per cent of the votes in our Twitter poll, with Ashley Young receiving 13 per cent and Nemanja Matic seven per cent.

It's been a superb start to the season in which Pogba has not only demonstrated his effectiveness with two goals and two assists in the Premier League, but also excited fans with his unmatched level of technical ability.

However, Mourinho insists the player should have stayed and fought for his place, but he elected to move to the La Liga club on a temporary deal, "It was a personal decision that I don't agree with, a decision I don't think honestly is the best decision for him, a decision that disappoints me".

Paul Pogba's hamstring injury was the only negative on a straightforward evening for Mourinho, whose strength in depth was laid bare by the fact Herrera did not even make the bench.

"To play my first match at Old Trafford is something I have really waited for".

"If his conditions are improved, he will be selected, I need him".
