The engine will be exclusively mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, rather than the CVT automatic offered in lower-grade models.

More so, the Swift Sport comes lighter than its predecessor - dropping a considerable 80 kilograms (176 pounds) when taking into account the cutesy city hot hatch tips the scales at a mere 970 kg (2,138 lbs). The engine in question is a 1.4-litre Boosterjet unit that is tuned to make 140hp and 230Nm of torque.

Suzuki's new Swift Sport made its public debut at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show 2017 on September 12.

"We had a brilliant foundation to work from, because the new Swift HEARTECT platform is incredibly light and rigid".

While the latest figures are barely on the radar of some of Europe and Japan's most powerful hot hatches, for example, the new 134kW three-cylinder turbo Ford Fiesta ST, the Swift Sport unequivocally maintains the power stronghold over the current Swift flagship, which is powered by an 82kW/160Nm turbocharged triple. He added. The sporty Swift gets a new redesigned front grille and bumper, the aerodynamic front-lip spoiler, side skirts, rear diffuser and roof-end spoiler makes it a whole different vehicle than the regular Suzuki Swift.

On the handling front, the Sport comes with bespoke sports suspension using Monroe front dampers with thicker stabiliser bars and Teflon seats, overall providing a 15 per cent increase in camber rigidity. The wheelbase is 20mm longer than the previous Swift Sport, while tread is 40mm wider both front and rear for increased straight-line stability. In keeping with the design focus on performance and emotional connection, the body has been lowered 15mm and widened 40mm, creating a more grounded, athletic stance. The main gauges pop with contrasting colours, and new boost and oil temperature gauges enhance the sports driving experience.

The new Swift will be revealed in India at the 2018 Auto Expo and we expect Maruti to also bring along the Swift Sport.

Safety features include advanced forward detection, Dual Sensor Brake Support, lane departure warning, weaving alert function, high beam assist, adaptive cruise control and other key technologies.

The new Suzuki Swift Sport is expected to arrive in Australian showrooms early in 2018.
