Metropolitan Police are desperately looking for the mother of a newborn who was abandoned in an east London park.

Police say they are anxious about the mother's welfare after finding a newborn baby boy carefully wrapped in a white blanket.

Medical staff treating the boy have named him Harry.

He is still being treated by doctors.

Police want to find the mother so she can receive the medical attention that she needs.

In a direct appeal to the child's mother, the officer leading the inquiry, DCI Jim Foley, said: "We are growing increasingly concerned for your welfare and I would urge you to make contact with us or your local hospital or GP surgery. It is really important that we know she is safe".

Police also appealed to the public for information that might help authorities reunite the baby with his mother.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 020 8217 6498 or via 101.
