"The joint terrorist analysis centre, which reviews the threat level that the United Kingdom is under, has chose to lower that level from critical to severe".

Soldiers who had been drafted in to guard public sites in order to free up police resources will "return to their original positions" over the next few days, Ms Rudd said.

The terror threat level has ben downgraded back down to severe after being raised to critical in the wake of the Tube bombing at Parsons Green Tube on Friday.

Britain's National Health Service says all but one of the people wounded in the subway bombing attack have been released from the hospital.

Police had earlier searched a house in Sunbury believed to be linked to the first suspect, who was arrested at the Dover ferry port.

Just one person is being treated at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, which has a specialist burns unit.

The property being searched by counter-terrorism police investigating the London subway bombing belongs to an elderly couple who have for years taken in foster children.

The terror threat level has been reduced from "critical" to "severe" after two men were arrested in conjunction with the Parsons Green Tube terror attack, Amber Rudd has announced.

The 21-year-old man was arrested in Hounslow shortly before midnight last night.

Friend Alison Griffiths said the couple had an 18-year-old and a 22-year-old staying with them recently.

Two arrests have now been made in connection with the attack which injured 30 people.

"The threat level remains at critical and there will be further investigations and part of the operation later today", Rudd told reporters.
