Though not one of the three owners who officially joined the three existing owners in May for the purposes of negotiating Commissioner Roger Goodell's extension, committee chairman Arthur Blank has allowed Jones to have a role and a voice in the process of hammering out Goodell's proposed new deal.

"Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has slowed down, if not impeded, contract talks regarding a potential extension for National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell", Schefter said.

That does not include Jones.

Goodell's extension, which had been expected to be completed before the season, will be discussed in a conference call this week among committee members. While some owners believe a contract extension is imminent, another source close to the situation said, "there's no way that happens right now".

You can certainly see why Jones and Goodell would be at odds, as the league recently suspended Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott for six games as a punishment for an alleged domestic violence incident that took place over a six-day period in July of 2016.

One league source said Jones now considers himself a representative of the remaining 26 owners who are not on the compensation committee. Both Schefter and Chris Mortensen made a big deal about the fact that Jones has made himself into an unofficial member of the Compensation Committee.

"If not for Jerry, this deal would be done", a person familiar with the negotiations told ESPN this weekend.

Goodell, who was elected commissioner in 2006, has reportedly made more than $200 million in salary leading the NFL.

So, while the battle in court goes on, the Cowboys owner might also be taking the fight to Goodell from another angle.
