- Reuters picLONDON, Sept 20 ― A year later than expected, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola appear set for a season-long fight for the Premier League title.

The two clubs lead the way on 13 points with an identical goal difference of 14 (16 goals scored and two conceded), while the defeat leaves Everton in the bottom three.

"Man City have spent the biggest amount in the Premier League so they are the principle contenders for the title", ESPN quotes Herrera as saying.

"I think that we have to try and build from something and I think we can build form this performance today because we were really well organised when we didn't have the ball".

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich may have bank-rolled Chelsea's initial burst into the top tier of the European game when he bought the club in 2003, but his cash injections have dried up in recent years as Arsenal have started to spend big once again. They are under pressure.

"But you know when you play for Man United wining is an expectation and an obligation", Herrera added.

United beat Everton 4-0 at Old Trafford, while City saw off Watford 6-0 at Vicarage Road, and speaking on The Debate -Live on Monday evening, Townsend says Jose Mourinho's side will be challenging come May.

However, United did manage to make the game safe in the final 10 minutes, as Lukaku pounced on a loose ball intercepted by former Toffee Marouane Fellaini and slid an inviting ball for Henrikh Mkhitaryan to slot calmly past Jordan Pickford.

"In the second half they had a couple of chances but the best keeper in the world (David de Gea) was there for us".

"We will try to be there. Everyone gave everything and I think it's really important that we keep going like this".

City's strong start to the season comes after the club spent over £200million on new players during the close-season, with Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva, Kyle Walker, Ederson and Danilo accounting for much of that expenditure. At the end of the season, we'll see what happens.

"It is only one game (although they did score five against Liverpool as well I guess) but they were a joy to watch". I said that last season and it is the same now.

While Pogba will be sidelined with a hamstring injury for several weeks, Mourinho has no doubts United remain in good hands with Matic directing traffic.

The Blues sit in third place and know a victory could take them above Manchester United.
