China calls for calm in Korean Peninsula

China's Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday UN resolutions are clear that the Korean peninsula issue should be resolved through peaceful and diplomatic means, after US President Donald Trump warned he would "totally destroy" North Korea if threatened.

Lavrov said during the meeting that Russia΄s position on the issue was "completely identical" to China΄s, the statement added.

Beijing's diplomatic spokesman Lu Kang said Tuesday that China places value on the September 19 joint statement of the six-party talks, South Korean news agency Yonhap reported.

An EU diplomat said around eight new North Korean officials were likely to be added to the EU sanctions list.

The threat from North Korea's nuclear and missile tests has dominated this year's gathering of world leaders, but divisions remain over how to confront Pyongyang.

"The core content of the agreement embodies the greatest common factor of each country", Lu said.
