Rohingya Muslims can be misled, exploited to destabilise region: Bangladesh envoy

The latest exodus began after Rohingya militants attacked police posts there on August 25 and triggered a fierce military backlash.More than 400,000 Rohingya have fled to neighbouring Bangladesh since then and the United Nations has said the army's action could amount to ethnic cleansing.

But he made no mention of the 422,000 Muslims who fled to Bangladesh to escape his army's sweeping counter-insurgency operation.

The latest bout of bloodshed began in August when Rohingya insurgents attacked about 30 police posts and an army camp, killing about 12 people.

He said there have been no clashes since September 5 and added that his government was committed to allowing aid in.

But he repeated the government line that the reason for the upheaval was unclear and that the "great majority" of Muslims (Myanmar's government does not use the term Rohingya) had stayed behind.

A Bangladeshi medical administrator, Aung Swi Prue, said six people died instantly in the truck crash near the border in southeastern Bandarban district. Eight people were detained, the office said.

Myanmar has largely sealed the area off to aid workers and reporters.

"All emergency support done by the organisation and in the movement is done in a neutral and impartial manner", the spokeswoman, Maria Cecilia Goin, citing what the workers had told the crowd before authorities intervened.

With Bangladesh struggling on front line of Rohingya crisis, Bangladesh's Ambassador to India Syed Muazzem Ali on Wednesday stated that there is a risk of some insurgents being misled and exploited to destabilise the region.

Myanmar rejects the charge, saying its forces are tackling insurgents of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army who it has accused of setting the fires and attacking civilians. "We are committed to ensuring that aid is received by all those in need, without discrimination", he said.

The Southeast Asian nation is facing accusations of ethnic cleansing and "savagery" by its security forces.

US President Donald Trump wanted the UN Security Council to take "strong and swift action" to end the violence, US Vice President Mike Pence said on Wednesday, declaring the crisis a threat to the region and world.

The crisis has drawn global condemnation and calls from the United Nations and US President Donald Trump for the military to stop the violence and support diplomatic efforts for a long-term solution for the Rohingya.

The conflict is overshadowing Myanmar's historic shift from five decades of direct military rule after Suu Kyi's elected government took office past year.

"For the national races who fled their homes, first of all they must go back. that is their rightful place", he said in a speech in the Sittwe.

"National races" refers to officially recognised indigenous ethnic groups who make up the diverse nation.

On Wednesday, he visited an army camp that was attacked on August 25 and said Myanmar was still suffering the consequences of "reckless" British colonialism.

Britain has suspended a training programme for Myanmar officers because of the violence.

The Centre's affidavit, filed in the apex court Registry, said the fundamental right to reside and settle in any part of the country is available to citizens only and illegal refugees can not invoke the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court to enforce the right.
