Iran tests new ballistic missile

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the defense sphere.

"Iran has released footage of the successful test-launch of its new ballistic missile, Khorramshahr, a few hours after it was unveiled during a military parade in the capital city of Tehran", Press TV said.

Iran maintains that its missile program has nothing to do with the nuclear deal.

The move is a direct challenge to President Donald Trump, who signed a bill imposing mandatory penalties on those involved in Iran's ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them. He also vowed to continue support for the "oppressed people of Yemen, Syria and Palestine", meaning Iran would continue to sow instability and mayhem throughout the Middle East. Iran has other missiles of this range in its arsenal.

The missile was launched at the end of a week that saw President Trump and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani (pictured) trade barbs at the United Nations.

.

The Russian Defense Minister met with Syrian President Bashar Assad in mid-September and discussed the ongoing military cooperation between the two, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement at the time.

In his speech at the United Nations, Trump accused Iran of supporting terrorists and called Tehran a "corrupt dictatorship" and a "murderous regime".

President Trump, who has repeatedly questioned the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, is said to be in a decision making process that would determine what the USA will ultimately do with the agreement. Iran said in its announcement that the Khorramshahr missile could carry several warheads.

The agency did not provide further information on the missile.

Liberman's office would not give a specific date for Shoigu's trip, but said it would take place sometime in mid-October. During a meeting with a clerical assembly, Khamenei said such comments "do not come from power, but from anger, desperation and weak-mindedness".

"Just imagine what would happen if Iran managed to get nuclear weapons".

Iran says it designed, developed and built the missile internally.
