South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha said in a speech in Washington yesterday that it is very likely that North Korea will conduct further provocations.

"We maintain the capability to deter North Korea's most unsafe threats but also to back up our diplomats in a manner that keeps this as long as possible in the diplomatic realm", he said in New Delhi after talks with his Indian counterpart.

"At a time when security situations remain grave on the Korean Peninsula and in the region caused by the North's nuclear and missile provocations, I hope that the two continue their close communication and cooperation to peacefully and fundamentally resolve the North's nuclear and missile issues and establish peace on the Korean Peninsula", he added.

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho said Mr Trump's Twitter comments, in which the U.S. leader said Mr Ri and leader Kim Jong Un "won't be around much longer" if they acted on their threats, amounted to a declaration of war and that Pyongyang had the right to take countermeasures.

North Korea has been moving airplanes and boosting defences on its east coast after the United States dispatched B-1B bombers to the Korean peninsula over the weekend, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported on Tuesday, citing the country's spy agency.

The unverified Yonhap report said the United States appeared to have disclosed the flight route of the bombers intentionally because North Korea seemed to be unaware.

"It is imperative that South Korea and the United States manage the crisis with North Korea to prevent further escalation or any kind of military clash which could quickly spiral out of control", Kang Kyung Wha told an audience at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
