Jacksonville Jaguars: 3 Keys to defeating Jets on the road

According to Pro Football Focus, even though it's mostly "garbage time" scoring, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles plays better against the zone than he does against man coverage. And quarterback Blake Bortles is trying to prove that his huge game in London last week, in which the Jaguars beat the Ravens is no fluke.

The Jaguars haven't been in any tight games yet, primarily because the turnover differential in two wins (+7) and the only defeat (minus-2) was substantial.

"I think our defense has done an unbelievable job, but there's going to be a day we're going to have to score a bunch of points, get in a shootout and win that way".

The Jets can't allow the Jaguars defense to gain any momentum. The Jets have won the last three meetings, with the last coming in Week 9 of the 2015 season at MetLife Stadium, a 28-23 decision in which Chris Ivory, now a member of the Jaguars, rushed for two touchdowns and Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for two more. Josh McCown will likely be under pressure for most of the game so Powell will be used as a safety valve out of the backfield, but he should also have an opportunity to run the ball and try to control the pace of the game. The Jets will have to be very disciplined in that scheme, but they have the players to do it. They're more talented than the Jets and if they want to be a playoff contender, they need to win this game.

"I think we had a big game in Week 1 and had a letdown Week 2", Bortles said.

"At the end of the year, we all say as coaches, 'we all want to be balanced.' But for me, I'd rather just win more games than worry about the balance and things of that nature, the way we have to play". He has scored a touchdown in each of his first three games and racked up 199 rushing yards.

The Jaguars have two good cornerbacks in Ramsey and A.J. Bouye, but Ramsey probably will be matched up with Kearse. But first they must establish the run and the Jets defense is among the best in the league against the run. For some perspective, his top running back in that 17-14 win over the Giants on November 14, 2004, was Emmitt Smith. Is Leonard Fournette poised to have a big game, or will the Jets defense prove its worth?

A three-game sample size is by no means a definitive barometer for how the 2017 season will play out. He had two TD catches in four games in 156 previous National Football League games, three of which came in 2010. He's putting them in the right situation running [the ball].

McCown has not won back-to-back games as a starter since 2004 when he was on the Cardinals. "They're really good", Jets offensive coordinator John Morton said. But they're also dealing with a quick turnaround after coming back from London. There is skepticism that he can do that two weeks in a row, but he could challenge the Jets' defense.
