Julia Roberts says 'Was a selfish little brat when young'

Later in October, Julia Roberts will reach the half-century mark, which means that America's sweetheart will be 50 years old. "Everything has come from that for me". "I was my [only] priority", Roberts tells Harper's.

On if she'd give up acting: "Well, if I did much less, I wouldn't be in the business at all".

In terms of work, Roberts, who's mom to 12-year-old twins Phinnaeus and Hazel and 10-year-old son Henry, admitted that the wage gap isn't something she gets worked up about, in part because parenting keeps her calm. "If I wasn't here today, I'd be in the carpool lane ferrying my kids to school", she quipped. We don't blame Roberts for focusing on herself at all, even if she feels it was selfish.

"I just don't get all insane over things", Roberts added. "There's an nearly unfair bar that a script has to attain for me to say, 'I'm going to drop everything for this.' Sometimes I think, 'I'm pretending my name is Jane and I work in a bank.' That's kinda silly-I'm a grown-up woman!"

She explained, "Remember why you're doing what you're doing". "I'd been spoilt with some great jobs already, so I was like, 'Why do that part with that person, when I was just doing that part with these people!'"

Because of that, she's pretty proud of the movies she has done.

"Deep down, we all know you can't stand on the top point of a pinnacle on your tiptoes, and not at some point lose your balance, or get exhausted, or say, 'OK somebody else take over, I have to go to the bathroom, '" said the actress, who is starring in the new film "Wonder", out November 17.

"Deep down, we all know you can't stand on the top point of a pinnacle on your tiptoes, and not at some point lose your balance, or get exhausted, or say, 'OK somebody else take over, I have to go to the bathroom.' There are great things I've accomplished and I'd be happy to accomplish more, of course, to impress my children and my husband". But you know what?

Julia Roberts was a "little brat" when she was starting out her Hollywood career. "I've been spoilt already".
