Just after Anupam Kher has been appointed as the new chairman of Film & Television Institute of India, the protest against the actor's appointment has started.

"Dear sir, while you must be busy accepting congratulatory messages, we would also like to bring to your attention the issues persisting in the iconic institute that you will be heading as Chairman".

After the students took a firm stand, the administration said that if the students do not participate in the activity, they will miss it and in no circumstances will be allowed to participate later.

The letter, signed by Robin Joy and Rohit Kumar, president and general secretary respectively of the association, was uploaded on the FTII Wisdom Tree Facebook page on Thursday. For instance, the new course "Short Course in Fiction Writing for Television" is being run for 20 days and a student is being charged Rs 20,000 which is very expensive for such a short term course and also for students from certain sections of the society.

It rebuked the administration for excluding student representatives from Academic Council discussions, claiming it was "against the constitution of the institute". "The government institute that exists to provide education to the students from all section should be driven by the agenda of funds generation which now seems to be the aim of the institute", the letter mentions.

"I could finish some of these but few are pending", he said.

-Students are being forced to sign undertakings to finish their courses "on time", even as the administration fails to provide the necessary resources essential to finish their projects on time.

FTII had introduced a revised syllabus, as well as a new "Choice Based Credit System" (CBCS), in June 2016.

Justifying the norms of reducing the dialogue exercise to two days, the administration has stated that the objective of reducing the exercise to two days is to complete the semester in time and to avoid backlog.

Over the past one year, the administration has spent lavish amounts of money on events such as "Open day", "Foundation day".

According to the Newspaper, nobody is questioning his credibility there. All the light-men have been reduced contractual labours although in the past the used to be permanent employees.

"The institute runs five-days-a-week".

"It is not feasible to work for 12 hours shift for two days and forcing the light men, carpenters and other workers to work for longer stretch. In case of the sixth day, at times, the lightmen are not paid now".

The role and future prospects of the institute's many contract staff. The faculty members and staff in the institute are not even getting salaries on time.

"The teacher inside me will teach the students some things and in return I will also learn a lot from them".

Filmmaker Pritish Nandy called it an "excellent change" at FTII.
