Egypt extended its extraordinary state application for 3 months

Egypt first imposed the state of emergency in April after two church bombings killed at least 45 people. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attacks and vowed to launch more in the future, pushing Al-Sisi to impose the state of emergency for three-months.

"The state of emergency will be applied across the country, effective as of 1 a.m. Friday, for an additional three months due to ongoing security concerns", read a presidential decree.

Enforcement of the additional three month started on July 10.

After incident, Egyptian President Sisi announced that it was declared an extraordinary state for 3 months.

The attacks took place while Egyptian Copts were celebrating Palm Sunday.

Egypt has witnessed terrorist attacks since the January 2011 revolution that toppled President Hosni Mubarak.

Article 154 from the 2014 constitution grants Sisi the right to extend the emergency period for 90 days following its implementation, as long as this decision receives a two-thirds majority from MPs who have seven days to review the measure.
