LG, meanwhile, has reportedly completed its own foldable OLED panel prototype years ago, and is now working to increase durability and the yield rate of the same.

Encouragingly, teen enthusiasm for the Apple brand doesn't extend just to smartphones.

There was a varient of this rumor that surfaced back in May about Apple preparing a foldable smartphone with LG. Other info indicated that the Galaxy X (Samsung's foldable phone) will be manufactured in very limited quantities and be sold in Korean shores only.

APPLE IS WORKING on a foldable OLED phone with LG Display, the display-making arm of the LG Group, according to sources speaking to The Bell in Korea (English version via The Investor). While Samsung has reputedly been working on a foldable or flexible smartphone for quite some time, a report on Wednesday claimed that Apple is also developing a similar device. While iPhone contributes the majority of revenue and profits, Apple Watch is growing in importance, potentially doubling revenue contribution to Apple top-line in the next two years.

The technology giant announced that consumers can pre-order the iPhone X on October 27 and the units will go on sale on November 3.

The report adds that LG has been working on its own foldable OLED panels for years, and is reportedly improving its durability as well as yield rate. Some sources claim that Apple may invest in LG's new plant to beef up OLED panel production though details are yet to be finalised.

Critics have pointed out plateauing iPhone sales in recent quarters, but Apple Inc. Apple's iPhone X is believed to feature displays exclusively from Samsung, as rival OLED panels from the likes of LG weren't up to snuff. Apple already has a head start in the segment, and the company believes they will be able to maintain an unassailable lead over Android in the segment for the next few years.
