Lifesaving Surgery After Unborn Baby 'Kicks Through' Her Mum's Womb

The mother raced a race against time to deliver the baby by C-section

A heavily pregnant Chinese mother is lucky to be alive after her unborn toddler kicked her womb so hard the uterus wall was ruptured, leaving the baby's leg dangling outside the womb.

The doctors at the Peking University Shenzhen Hospital in southern China suspected it to be a case of uterine rupture.

The wound had come from a previous operation.

The baby, who was born at 35 weeks via an emergency cesarean section, is reported to be in stable condition.

The expectant Ms Zhang was rushed to hospital in critical condition after she complained of severe stomach pain that lasted for hours.

An ultrasound revealed that the baby girl's leg was poking out of the mother's womb and into her abdomen at the site of a previous operation where Zhang had a fibroid tumor removed in 2016. Zhang's amniotic fluid had also begun to flow into her abdomen.

They chose to perform the emergency C-section, and the baby was delivered 10 minutes later.

Zhong said that women who have operations like Zhang's to remove fibroids should wait one or two years before trying to have a baby.

"Rupture pregnancy" is considered to be extremely rare.

Both the baby and the mother are said to be doing well, according to a report in the UK's Sun.

The condition can lead to fetal anoxia and catastrophic hemorrhage.

Although uterine rupture is quite rare, it can very risky - both for mother and her baby.

The doctors suspected that she had suffered a uterine rupture due to the scars left behind from her previous surgery.

The 33-year-old mother, who had previously had five C-sections, gave birth to a healthy boy via a caesarean section.
