Turkey's player Abdussamed Karnucu duels for the ball against Paraguay's Alexis Duarte during the FIFA U-17 World Cup match in Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai: Paraguay continued to shine and recorded their third win on the trot when they thrashed a struggling Turkey 3-1 in a Group B match of the Federation Internationale de Football Association U-17 World Cup at Navi Mumbai on Thursday.

Earlier, they had defeated Mali, one of the title contenders, 3-2, and New Zealand 4-2, at the DY Patil stadium.

The result eliminates Turkey from the group stage as they finished fourth.

Paraguay took the lead after missing a penalty. To counter the sharp Paraguay attack, Turkey midfielders Sefa Akgun, Kerem Kesginand and Yunus Akgun slowed the pace of the game. Fernando Cardozo tapped in the second goal by scrambling the ball low to the other corner.

Giovanni Bogado (41st minute), Fernando Cardozo (43rd) scored in the first half for Paraguay, while Antonio Galeano (61st) struck their third goal after the break to seal a thumping win. Handed an opportunity to take a free-kick from the top of the box in the 41st minute, Bogado produced a beautifully curling effort which left the goalkeeper looking silly.

Two minutes later, a back-heal from Cardozo did the trick for Paraguay, who went 2-0 up.

Inside the first 10 minutes, Turkey had a chance on target when Malik Karaahmet took a cross from the left flank Recep Gul and headed straight into Paraguay goalkeeper Diego Huesca's hands. The left winger ran down the flank and kept a ideal ball for Cardozo who calmly found the back of the net.

Bogado took a corner which was blocked by Turkey's defence, and Galeano shot outside the box, which deflected off Melih Gokcimen and went to the bottom right corner of the goal, as their keeper stood on his spot.

But Turkey proved proud competitors and they found a consolation in second-half injury time from Kerem Kesgin's powerful shot from the edge of the area.
