AFL free agent Steven Motlop nominates Port Adelaide

Steven Motlop looks nearly certain to be a Port Adelaide player after Geelong announced they would not be matching the Power's free agency offer.

It is understood the Cats will not match the four-year contract offered to the restricted free agent, instead receiving a second-round pick as compensation. It's nearly certain the Cats won't do that.

The Power have been active players during the first week of the trade period, signing former Brisbane skipper Tom Rockliff as a free agent, while offloading Jarman Impey to Hawthorn and Jackson Trengove to the Western Bulldogs.

Motlop's move will give the Cats greater financial room to trade for Gary Ablett, and complete other deals.

Melbourne's Jack Watts is reportedly also a target for Ken Hinkley's team, while Matthew Lobbe could leave the club.

The Motlop family has a rich history with the Power, for Steven's brother Daniel played 83 games while his cousin Marlon also played five games.
