Amazon to Add 120000 Holiday Workers, Same as Last Year

Last year, thousands of people who were hired during the holiday season transitioned into full-time employees after the holidays.

Amazon.com Inc (AMZN) said it would hire 120,000 workers in the United States this holiday season, same as past year, as the online behemoth prepares for the holiday shopping frenzy.

The surge of temporary help will almost double the number of the workers it has at its fulfillment centers, sorting centers and customer service sites.

In Jacksonville, Amazon just opened operations at Bulls Bay Highway, 103rd Street and Pecan Park Road this year.

Supply-chain experts say hiring this year will be more competitive due to near-record-low unemployment, requiring retailers and logistics companies to offer higher wages and other perks. It also said it expects to convert thousands of these positions to full-time roles. And the state has said it will make a pitch for the company's new second headquarters - which is slated to bring $5 billion in investments and 50,000 jobs to wherever it lands. Target is hiring 8,000 seasonal employees for its stores in the Los Angeles area.

United Parcel Service Inc. has said it would hire 95,000 workers, also on par with a year ago, aiming to increase operational efficiency with the same number of workers even as the number of packages it ships grows.
