Gurmehar Kaur is Time Magazines top 10 Gen leaders

Gurmehar Kaur, who rose to fame, after two videos of her - first a criticism of war and the second a criticism of the violence at Rajhans College in Delhi - has now been listed in the 2017 list of Time Next Generation Leaders. Another video of her holding the placard with words, "My mother made me understand that Pakistanis did not kill my dad".

"If there was no war between us, my father would still be here", she said in the viral video. I am not afraid of ABVP.

Gurmehar, who has been hailed as a "free speech warrior" and the only Indian in the list, is the daughter of a martyred army captain.

"I noticed that people listen to what I say and why should I keep mum if I am saying something positive", Kaur told Time Magazine. "I am not alone".

Interestingly, Kaur has been placed with the likes of Star Wars actor John Boyega, YouTube sensation Lilly Singh, and South African Comedian Trevor Noah in the list. While I never asked for it, I was pushed to the forefront.

Time says, "But still she refuses to be silenced, and has a memoir, Small Acts of Freedom, that is due to be published next year". Following which Gurmehar received rape and death threats from online trolls and also became center of a national debate on free speech and dissent in an increasingly nationalistic India.
