JK: Search operation launched after gunshots heard in Pulwama

Police have arrested a Jaish-e-Mohammad militant involved in grenade attack on cavalcade of senior PDP leader and J&K Works Minister Naeem Akhtar at Tral in south Kashmir last month in which three civilians were killed and 30 others injured.

Meanwhile in Tral, reports said the army has cordoned off a vast forest stretch Channad forest tat includes the remote Pastuna village.

"A Chinese pistol, a magazine and some rounds were recovered from the possession of the arrested militant", the official said.

He said Gulzar was involved in attack on Akhtar at bus stand Tral on September 21 in which 3 civilians were killed and 30 persons including seven CRPF men and two police personnel injured.

He said Gulzar was earlier active with Jaish in 2014. "He was arrested and released after two years in January 2017", the spokesman said.

People took to the streets after Indian police and troops launched a cordon and search operation in the area. During searches, terrorists fired upon the search party.

"Accordingly, a search operation was launched in the forest area".

The troops pressed choppers into service to assist the troops on ground in nabbing the militants.
