New Tesla voluntary recall applies to 11000 Model X vehicles

Tesla says that only 3% of the recalled vehicles are affected by the issue. The company's mobile service means a service van comes to you. It should be noted that Tesla has not received any reports of this happening in customer cars - it discovered the problem during internal testing. Although we have never seen any incidence of it in the field, internal testing has indicated that if the cable is not properly adjusted, the seat back on the left side of the second row seats could move forward during a crash.

Tesla recalls tend to be voluntary, and its latest is no exception.

No incidents have been reported by customers, but the company is offering free repairs either through its mobile service or at a service center. Owners can take their Model X to a dealer for repairs or contact Tesla's mobile fix units. The issue at hand only affects Model X vehicles with second-row fold-flat seats with build dates between October 28, 2016, and August 16, 2017.

Tesla last week also announced that it increased production of Model S and Model X vehicles to an all-time best quarter of 26,150 vehicles, and anticipated it would deliver 100,000 of the luxury models in 2017 - a third more than in 2016.

The number of Model X vehicles being recalled was estimated at 11,000, with only a small percentage expected to have the seat cable problem.

"Until then, there is no issue with continuing to drive your Model X", Tesla wrote in the email. Model X has received the highest rating in every category and subcategory in independent crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and we are committed to ensuring that Model X remains the safest SUV in the world.
