Met Police release CCTV footage of suspect in east London

A girl aged 17 was sexually assaulted three times in the space of an hour as she walked home from a nightclub in east London two weeks ago.

The victim, who may have been drugged, was making her way home after a night out in east London on a Friday night in September when she became separated from her friends, the Metropolitan police said.

She was attacked three times in quick succession from about 11.55pm (3:25am IST) on Friday September 29 until about 12.55am (4:25am IST) on Saturday September 30 by three different men, the last of whom was part of a small group.

The victim's ordeal started shortly before midnight when she was first picked up on camera being carried by a man, named suspect 1, on Cambridge Heath Road. Images of a third man are said to be too unclear for release.

The man took her into a doorway where items of her clothing were later found.

After midnight, another camera picked up the girl walking down Mint Street, followed by another man, suspect 2, on a racing bike. He has dark pants and a bag on his back.

The man appears to follow the girl as she heads towards Bethnal Green Overground Station then approaches her and directs her into an area set back from the street.

Two of the suspects police want to identify following the sexual assaults.

The CCTV indicates that he then directed the victim into an area just back from the street, where they remained for a period of time. The girl, whose clothing appears dishevelled, is seen emerging shortly afterwards and going further down Corfield Street.

The CCTV captures a third, different man [suspect 3] walking down Cornfield Street and joining two other figures seen in the distance in outline shadow under some trees.

One of the men, identified as suspect 3, appears to bend down towards a spot on the kerb between parked cards, and police believe this is when the victim was sexually assaulted again.

She added: "We believe two of the three were very serious sexual assaults indeed, and are determined to catch the persons responsible for these ugly crimes".

This same man is then seen walking away from the incident in a clip that reveals that the suspect has a distinctive gait, which police says, gives him the appearance of walking unevenly and perhaps being slightly bow-legged.

Following this third attack, a member of the public spotted the teenager lying on the ground in Cornfield Street in a state of distress and immediately rung 999 to alert police. Officers arrived shortly afterwards and took her for examination and specialist support.

Police said they believed the girl may have been drugged.

Anybody with information is asked to call the Met's special appeal number on 0208 733 5999.

Detective Inspector Suzanne Jordan said: "This is a horrific multiple sexual assault on a young female who was simply making her way home after a night out".

CCTV footage captured the images of the suspects. We would like to thank the members of the public who intervened to help her and possibly prevented her ordeal from continuing even further. I would urge anyone who recognises either male in these images to contact us as a matter of urgency.
