Special counsel Robert Mueller's team interviewed former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus on Friday, Politico reported.

It was not immediately clear what questions Priebus was asked or how long the interview lasted.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigators are interviewing a number of White House and other officials as part of the inquiry into any ties between Trump's presidential campaign and Russian Federation.

Priebus' lawyer, William Burck, told Politico that the one-time Trump administration staffer sat down willingly with Mueller's team.

He has also requested White House documents about a series of topics, including Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey and interactions with Michael Flynn, the former national security adviser who was sacked over December conversations with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

Mueller's wide-ranging probe into Russian meddling in the presidential election and potential collusion with President Trump's campaign has haunted the West Wing for months.

Priebus, who was Republican National Committee chairman during the campaign, became White House chief of staff upon Trump's taking office in January.

Priebus did not answer his cell phone Friday evening.

Mr. Priebus is the first senior administration official known to have been interviewed by the special counsel's office.
