Sean Penn Tries Blocking Netflix Documentary Suggesting He Ratted Out El Chapo

Penn is at odds with actress Kate del Castillo over her retelling of the story in "The Day I Met El Chapo: The Kate del Castillo Story", which is set to bow Friday.

Several of Penn's lawyers have reportedly been in contact with Netflix multiple times to pressure them to edit out any reference that he contacted the DOJ prior to the meeting.

'My concern is that we are taking an huge amount of pressure from all directions related to Sean Penn and now Netflix has done a great job of hanging tough. but their nerves are on edge, ' he wrote.

Broome goes on. "I'm anxious that there's a chance Netflix hits the brakes for a while".

TMZ obtained an email from The Day I Met El Chapo executive producer David Broome, who wrote, "My concern is that we are taking an enormous amount of pressure from all directions related to Sean Penn and now Netflix has done a great job of hanging tough - but their nerves are on edge..."

Actress Kate del Castillo features in the documentary titled The Day I Met El Chapo: The Kate del Castillo Story. He was captured 3 months later. Twelve hours after the meeting, Mexican authorities raided the site but Chapo had already left. The events surrounding the now-infamous meeting have been well covered, including by Penn himself in Rolling Stone and his many public comments since.

"It is reprehensible that in their ongoing, relentless efforts to gain additional attention and publicity, Ms. del Castillo and her team (who have zero firsthand knowledge) have sought to create this profoundly false, foolish, and reckless narrative", Penn's spokesperson Mark Fabiani tells the website. At the time, anonymous Mexican law enforcement officials claimed that Penn and del Castillo's meeting with Guzmán led them to the drug lord.

In an earlier letter that Netflix's general counsel, David Hyman, wrote to Mr. Rosengart, he said that "to the extent that Mr. Penn may be in any physical danger, it is as result of his decision to meet with El Chapo in 2015". "It never happened, nor would there have been any reason for it to have happened".

Having escaped from a Mexican prison in July 2015, the recaptured Guzman was extradited to the U.S.by our southern neighbor's government in January to face American justice over criminal activity from his role as the head of the Sinaloa cartel.
