Controversial UFC to come to Perth next year

Western Australia gets its first UFC event with February pay-per-view card

Western Australia gets its first UFC event with February pay-per-view card

The global fighting promotion first visited Australia in Februray, 2010 for UFC 11o, which took place at the Sydney Super Dome, with a return event at the same venue, 127, going down nearly exactly twelve months later in 2011. It will make this debut not with a Fight Night card, but with a full-on pay-per-view card in UFC 221.

A controversial Ultimate Fighting Championship event will be held at Perth Arena next February and is expected to attract around 8,000 interstate and worldwide visitors to Western Australia.

Next February's pay-per-view event will be held at Perth Arena, which holds around 20,000 fans.

Briton Michael Bisping is set to defend his middleweight title against George St Pierre at UFC217 this weekend, with the victor already firmly pencilled in to advance to face Whittaker and unify the division's titles.

The promotion has confirmed that the state's capital will host UFC 221 on Sunday February 11, a timeframe which aligns well with the return of interim champion Whittaker.

Whittaker has been offered front-row seats at the Garden for the event by UFC officials, indicating that they expect some sort of confrontation between the Interim Champ and the World Champ to take place after the title fight.

Whittaker and Bisping were supposed to meet UFC 193 in 2015 before the Englishman withdrew from the fight. But fighting on home soil is always a dream come true and I'd love to unify the title here in Australia.

UFC 218 will take place December 2 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, with featherweight champion Max Holloway fighting Frankie Edgar in the main event.
