Dortmund heading out of Champions League after APOEL draw

Borussia Dortmund manager Peter Bosz spoke in his press conference ahead of his team's Champions League home match against APOEL Nicosia.

The draw leaves third-placed Dortmund and bottom side APOEL needing to bridge the five-point gap behind holders Real in order to make the last 16. The most important thing is that we win. "We got into this together and we have to find a way out".

Dortmund, who host Tottenham on November 21 before travelling to Madrid for their final group game, had four shots on goal after only 10 minutes.

Dortmund are now third on two points, level with third-placed APOEL and five behind Madrid. Group leader Tottenham defeated Real 3-1 in Wednesday's other game in Group H to advance to the knockout stage. Borussia Dortmund is expected to win today's match against Apoel Nicosia.

"We are stuck in a bad phase", said captain Marcel Schmelzer.

"A second goal before the break would have done us good".

This was neither the result nor performance Bosz wanted ahead of Saturday's crunch Bundesliga showdown at home to defending champions Bayern Munich.

The left-back timed his run perfectly to get in behind the defence and calmly slot home on 29 minutes.

Dortmund should have been further ahead but they were punished just after the break when, as he did in the 1-1 draw in Cyprus a fortnight ago, Benin global Pote scored for APOEL.

When Dortmund defender Marc Bartra lost the ball near the touchline, the visitors countered quickly.

APOEL's Mickael Pote (down) celebrates with team mates after scoring the 1-1 equaliser. Carlao hooked in a low cross from the left and, though Pote nearly lost the ball with his first touch, he recovered to turn and shoot past Dortmund keeper Roman Burki.
