Real Madrid contact Liverpool about Philippe Coutinho: They could hijack Barcelona raid

Real Madrid join chase for Philippe Coutinho

Real Madrid join chase for Philippe Coutinho

The Catalan paper claims the Champions League winners have approached Liverpool to discuss the possible signing of Coutinho in the summer.

Liverpool withstood three offers from Barcelona and a transfer request from the player during the summer to keep hold of him. However, PSG are also lurking in the background with Neymar Jr, his Brazilian worldwide team-mate, keen for the midfielder to move to the Parc Des Princes.

Nevertheless, it is said Coutinho is still "obsessed" with joining Barcelona with a deal around £133million proposed.

Now the Spanish publication insists that Barcelona hope to reach an agreement for a fee below the €150m that Liverpool are currently demanding.

However, Mundo Deportivo suggests that if Barcelona fail to convince Liverpool to cash in during the January window, then they may have to abandon their interest permanently as Real Madrid's fresh interest will only increase his €150m price further ahead of the summer.

With Angel Di Maria and Julian Draxler expected to leave next summer, PSG are also in the mix as they search for attacking players and playing alongside compatriot Neymar and young striker Kylian Mbappe could prove enticing to Coutinho.

Barcelona have also been heavily linked with Schalke 04 midfielder Leon Goretzka.

Coutinho is believed to favour a move to the Camp Nou.
