Responding to a report of "suspicious activity", the Secret Service closed access to the White House's north fence-line, across from Lafayette Park.

The U.S. Secret Service tweeted: "Subject is in custody". US President Donald Trump is not now at the residence, as he is en route to Hawaii before heading on his first presidential visit to Asia. The White House confirmed shortly after 10 a.m. Friday that Air Force One was wheels up.

The White House is under lockdown due to "suspicious activity" in its North Fence line.

The person did not gain access to the White House grounds, the agency said.
