The Liverpool man has missed the last three games for his club with a thigh problem, but the Seleção medical staff is optimistic that he can play a small part in the match in London.

Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho has earmarked Brazil's friendly with England on November 14 as his likely return to action from a groin injury.

Liverpool have been given an update on the fitness of Philippe Coutinho ahead of their Premier League clash with Southampton on 18 November, after the influential playmaker departed for global duty.

The 25-year-old was named in Brazil's squad for their upcoming friendlies against Japan and England, but is not expected to feature heavily in the two games.

Brazil's team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, speaking to Globo Esporte, explained: "Coutinho had a muscle injury in the adductor of the left thigh". We knew that he would not be fully fit, but we chose to make his final recovery with us.

"The chances that he will play against Japan are tiny, but we are working to make him available against England".

"He may not be able to participate [against Japan]".

Lasmar said there was a chance that, against Japan, Coutinho "could be on the bench and play a few minutes". "If everything goes well, he will begin working with the ball on Wednesday". We focus on getting him back for the second game.
