Apple update to fix iPhone X cold temperature problem

If you're the proud owner of a brand new iPhone X, you're going to want to make sure the device stays inside a warm environment. The company says it is working on a software fix to prevent the screens from locking up.

In the meantime, they say the screen will become fully functional and responsive again after several seconds.

"It appears the "coldgate" problem with iPhone X was happening at temperatures close to zero degrees but still within the recommended temperature range", 9to5Mac reported late on Thursday.

The timing is unfortunate for much of the northeast, with an imminent cold snap. Colder temperatures could shorten the battery life and cause the devices to turn off.

The iPhone maker said it will issue a fix in an upcoming software update as it does not appear to be an inherent hardware fault.
