The Gophers (5-5, 2-5 Big Ten) held Nebraska to 69 yards rushing on 33 attempts.

After a heartbreaking overtime loss at home against Northwestern, Nebraska went on the road to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Smith set the tone for the day by taking the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown, the first time the Gophers returned an opening kickoff for a score since 1998 when Tyrone Carter had an 86-yard touchdown return.

Croft's rushing yards were a school record for rushing yards in a game by a quarterback. Demry Croft fools the defense on a read-option play and runs 73 yards for a touchdown. He scored on a 73-yard run in the second quarter and ran to the Nebraska 1 on a 64-yard scamper in the fourth quarter.

After scoring on every possession of the first half, the Golden Gophers punted only once in the second half, outscoring the Big Red 24-7 after the break.

Nebraska starting quarterback Tanner Lee completed 13 of his 18 passes in the first half, but did not return for the second half due to an undisclosed illness. The Golden Gophers keep the ball on the ground for the drive, converting a crucial fourth down play deep in Nebraska territory.

Patrick O'Brien came in and completed 12 of his 18 passes for 137 yards in relief.

Mikale Wilbon carried the ball eight times for 26 yards for Nebraska in the first half.

Minnesota native and the son of Vikings general manager Rick Spielman, JD Spielman caught nine passes for 141 yards for Nebraska.

Minnesota responded with an 11-play, 71-yard drive that culminated with Emmit Carpenter's 36-yard field goal with four seconds to play before halftime, and the Gophers took a 30-14 lead into the locker room.

Lee also led a 10-play, 90-yard touchdown drive in the second quarter when he found a rhythm with Spielman. Minnesota leads 30-14 at the half.

Minnesota topped 500 offensive yards and scored on all but one drive en route to a 54-21 win over Nebraska Saturday.
