Ernest C. Pogge, who served with an engineering unit in France and Germany during World War II, said the expressions of gratitude meant a great deal to him and other veterans in the parade.

"We do it for our veterans".

Thousands of people lined the streets of downtown Topeka for the fifth annual Veterans Day parade organized by the Military Veteran Project, a nonprofit organization founded by Melissa Jarboe. Hundreds of community members gathered to watch as Callaway public officials and many members of the Callaway community cruised down Cherry Street in Callaway, all in support of veterans.

"My husband is a veteran, he served in the military and the army and he's the one that brought me out to the parade today", Attendee, Vera Lake said.

"There was no recognition then, it's wonderful of the people who stop and thank you for your service, or even have fellow veterans who do a salute; it's a nice feeling", Wooster said.

Due to blustery winter temperatures, our sister station WCSJ reported some changes have been made to the Veteran's Day observance in Morris.

The city along with the Columbus Air Force base held its' annual Veteran's Day Parade and wreath laying ceremony.

"It's hard to tell with all the people here though", said Bryant, who served in the Vietnam War.

Terry Romey said he was pleasantly surprised at the turnout in Fresno, and they already plan to attend next year.

"We didn't get this then and that's all we wanted", Gay said. "As a young nurse, I had the blessing and the curse of being in Vietnam, a blessing because we were in a situation where we were always able to help someone, and a curse because it was all so unreal".
