Google Home can now be used as an intercom with Broadcast feature

Of course, this only works if you have a few devices strewn around your home.

You can use Assistant on your smartphone to send messages to all Assistant-enabled speakers within your home, and with certain commands, like announcing it's time for dinner, the Assistant will ring a dinner bell on every speaker. Users can say "Ok Google, broadcast [x]" to either Assistant on their phone or another speaker and have that custom message parroted out.

You might have had a home intercom system if you grew up between the 70s and 80s, and that's exactly the kind of functionality Broadcast offers.

You can use Broadcast for all sorts of messages, but for common, everyday things, Google Assistant will play a charming message rather than your voice.

Google says you can also use the feature to have Assistant broadcast to your speakers when you're not at home. You can even do this from outside the house; you don't need to be at home to make your voice heard throughout the house.

And if you're just leaving the office, you can let your family know you're coming with a simple "Ok Google, broadcast I'm on my way home!" to the Assistant on your phone, and it will broadcast to your Google Homes.

While that sounds a little weird, it'll definitely be a useful feature to many people.

Broadcast is rolling out now to users that have Assistant on their Google Home and phones set to the English language in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia with more languages scheduled to come out "soon".
