With Panthers WR Curtis Samuel out for season, Mike Shula talks replacement plan

According to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer, the Panthers fear Samuel suffered a high ankle sprain or perhaps worse, which could threaten his ability to play much of a role the rest of the regular season.

The injury bug has pestered Samuel quite a bit since he was selected in the second round of April's draft.

Coach Ron Rivera said earlier Tuesday there was concern that Samuel's injury would be season-ending, but he was awaiting MRI results.

When healthy, Samuel has caught 15 passes for 115 yards. He had only 10 catches for 70 yards before Monday night. Otherwise, they're down to Devin Funchess, Russell Shepard, Kaelin Clay, and Brenton Bersin. "Is there anybody as fast as him?" ". We're going to try hard to find ways to put guys in what they do best and then have them go do it". He should be ready for the November 26 game against the New York Jets.

Samuel, a product of Ohio State, played running back for the Buckeyes before shifting to wide receiver in the NFL. "I'm staying optimistic about this whole thing, that everything will work out and we'll still see him sometime this year".

Even after Samuel left the game, the Panthers continued to pile up yards and points in the 45-21 victory. "One of the best things that happened (Monday) night after Curtis (was hurt) is we didn't really feel like we missed a beat".
